hi steve,
i was writing about broadcast situations, and high end post. there's a
great many mid to low end post houses that use jvc monitoring, and fora
vision mixers (distrib thru jvc), but on the whole jvc usually offers
more bang for the buck, at the expense of quality of manufacture. it's
a pity, their d9 was quite spectacular when it first arrived,
unfortunately, when i was considering using it as a mastering format
(in house - nobody outside wanted to know about it), the demo vtr i
borrowed felt like a fisher price toy - the jog/shuttle dial cam off
in my hand, the switches didn't have any 'click', and looking inside
was the equivalent of looking under an early datsuns bonnet. the bits
were all there, but just sort of plastic looking....
i haven't heard anyone (the pro shooters i know) ever praise their
cameras either.
