I'm considering my 1st DVD recorder. I've owned several standard DVD
players, but the recording option is quite attractive. However, before I
buy one, I need to have one question answered. It's somewhat tricky to
explain. I'll do my best.
Currently, I watch television via DirecTV, using an S-Video Cable.
This enables me to watch programming on channel 'Video 1', which results in
a much sharper picture quality. Before using the S-Video, all my TV
programming (cable and satellite) were set to channel 3, the default.
Unfortunately, I cannot watch my VHS tapes on Video 1. I have to
switch to Channel 3 to do that. Curiously, I can record to my VCR while
watching Video 1, but it uses the inferior broadcast signal from Channel 3.
Okay, to my question. If I got a DVD Recorder, would it be able to
record TV programs using the Video 1 signal, or the inferior Channel 3
signal? If it's the latter, I'll forget about a DVD recorder.
