Programs like GSpot should give you the bit-rates for the files you
have (I have version 2.60 RC1). If those have changed, you would know.
I think...

The video bit-rate field is a tiny window labeled kbps near the middle
of the right-hand half of GSpot's window.

I admit to being unsure how they get the data and quite what it means
(partly because I can't find the audio bit rate or the total bit rate
in the couple of files I just checked).

It's free at gpsot.headbands.com. You probably already know all this,
but I posted it just in case...

Hmm... The above made me think: Is it possible that your software
changed (rendered) the audio into a less-compressed format? Maybe GSpot
will show that, if so.
