Several - of a debugging nature :-)
You may have made an undetected mistake in connection (especially if
you have a mare's nest of cables like mine!).
The video cable may be bad.
Your set may have what I call input priority. If you have, say, a
component cable and an S-Video cable on the same input (such as Vid 1),
the TV might ignore the S-Video even when there's no signal on the
component cables.
My first step would be to plug one of the other inputs into your setup
where the DVD now is and see if that works, to verify that nothing is
broken on the chosen input path.
