Thanks for the (overly) generous compliments, and the heads-up.
Tone is often hard to get across exactly right in Usenet posts - even if
you're writing in your native language. It's twice as hard in a foreign
language. You don't always know how to include all the necessary
subtleties and nuances in your message, and even if you did, you may
sometimes unintentionally slip into a more blunt and plain mode than
usual - especially when you're not at your sharpest; during the wee
hours, etc.
That is not to say I couldn't be blunt and condescending on purpose. (Oh
well. Now you'll never know! :)

I've mostly been posting that sort of advice to rec.video.desktop and
alt.video.dvd.authoring. People in the groups to which this thread is
being cross-posted might not have seen any of that. But thanks for the
thanks, anyway. :) It's always nice if other people, too - in addition
to the person who originally sought for advice - can benefit from an
answer.
