That is correct. Naturally, there are programmes such as DVD Idle,
which circumvent that particular annoyance.

I'm using a DVD player set to region 1, but playing DVDs from region 5.
This is the only cd thus far that's actually refused to work. However,
interestingly enough,

but which can of course be circumvented with any number of programmes.
However, I live in Moscow, and am using region 5 DVDs. Yet this is the
first time that a DVD has refused to work on my computer. However, the
situation is more interesting than expected:

It is a dual layered DVD, and I am uncertain as to whether or not that
should be presenting any problems for me. Likewise, the DVD has
*automatically* worked on computers whose players are set to region 2.
If there is a region code for this DVD (normally region 5, for Russia),
then I have not found it. It might be that this is a regionless DVD
(I've heard of these, but never actually encountered one...)

But since my hardware doesn't even *detect* the DVD, I'm not sure how
much concern I ought to express over region incompatabilities.
