You are probably having problems because of the ridiculously vast amount of
ways to create a Divx/Xvid movie, and the relevant player needs to be able
to handle the various codecs available.
I've had 4 different standalone players, including Lite-On DVD recorders,
and all of them have had a particular problem.
They drop frames, causing juddering when panning, no picture at all, no
sound etc... but this is often down to the firmware of the player and
nothing to do with how they are burnt, or the media they are burnt to,
although that can sometimes be a factor also.
By far the best way to play Divx movies is with a soft-modded Xbox running
XBMC.
So, before you rush out and buy another machine, I suggest do a lot of
research in to a particular model.
