imovie is generally considered to be for casual home movie making,
though it too comes in an HD flavor now. The standard imovie is free
with a mac and is part fo the ilife suite. If simple things for fun or
work are all you need, this is probably ... all you need. ;-)

FCP and Edius are roughly the same functionally, they only differ in
small details. If you get the FCP SUITE, you get a very powerful
combination of associated programs and this is a step ahead of Edius
alone. But editor to editor, they will both do what you want. m Making
cuts, dissolves, wipes, DVE moves, titling, audio, simple composites.

Really the thing is to find one that feels best for the way you like
to work, then master that. You can try free evaluaton versions of most
all the NLE's on the market. Try before you buy.
