the ones that use salt are the useful ones - a proper one will indeed turn
your water soft.
only negative is that you'll only have one hard - drinking supply left
intact - usually the kitchen.
when you're in the bathroom cleaning your teeth it will be with nasty
tasting soft water that you don't really want to swallow!
