I have had this VCR/DVD Player combi for two years. Eighteen months ago I
started downloading video in ".avi" format from the internet and burning
them on to DVD-R to watch on the Toshiba. I was so pleased with the results
that I have since bought two further MPEG4 compatable DVD players,
(Targa5100 and a Packard Bell DivX350).
Everything was fine until about two months ago when the Toshiba refused to
recognise any MPEG4 discs, inserting a disc is greeted with "check disc" or
"disc error". It still plays commercially made DVDs; my own made back-ups in
DVD format; commercial audio CDs and my own made Photo CDs in ".jpg" format.
It will no longer recognise discs in ".avi"; ".mpg" or ".mp3" format that
used to work.
All discs still play OK in the Targa and the Packard Bell. It seems to have
forgotten how to deal with anything in MPEG. I thought that a "factory
reset" might help but Toshiba tell me that there is no facility on this
model. I have never attempted to multi region hack or firmware upgrade the
machine.
I have used a lens cleaning DVD several times.
Any ideas, please?
Paul
