I agree that they have had a rough row to hoe, but apparently a thug like
Saddam was the only kind of authority that could hold such disparate groups
together. Have to qualify that, however, by saying that the country should
never have existed with its present borders, cutting across cultural,
religious and tribal lines. Thank the Brits for that...
