Go for the VX2000. It is a very rugged camera, and has been used in many
environments from the Antarctic to the desert. That does not mean however
that you don't have to take protective precautions, like using a raincover,
or put tape on the camera-door when you're in the desert.
For low-light work, the VX2000 and the VX2100 are the best you can get. You
will see it in the news, but have a look at Ptravel's website, because here
we know for sure he used such a camera :-)
