The Oppo 971 has been discontinued, being replaced by the 981 model
that does 1080p in addition to 480i/480p/720p/1080i. The 981 is HDMI
output where the 971 is DVI output.
You may wish to get the 971 model which is still available from
Amazon.com but no longer sold directly by Oppo. You will save $30 on
the player and the cost of an HDMI-DVI cable. I wouldn't count on them
being available from Amazon for a lot longer.
I may have interperted your post incorrectly and I am assuming that you
have DVI input and not HDMI. If you have HDMI, then both models will
work for you. You may prefer the HDMI interface of the 981 model as
the sound will go through the cable as well and not seperately.
I purchased the 970 model for my Vizio LCD since the Vizio has the
Faroudja chip built into it. Your set will probably benefit most from
an Oppo with this chip as does my JVC.
