All the above looks good. A colleague of mine filmed chuff-chuffs in
northern China a few years ago -- cold, crisp sunny days were needed
for the spectacular steam exhaust effects that chuff-chuff enthusiasts
love.
He kept the camera out in the air on its tripod to acclimatise, using
one battery to set up the shot, but keeping another battery in his
underpants until the last minute. (Don't ask me what contortions it
took to get it OUT of his underpants whilst fully dressed for sub-zero
temperatures!)
He had no trouble with taking the camera into hotels at night, but took
great care not to allow condensation to build up inside, partly because
of the dew point sensor problem, and partly because once moisture got
in it could freeze the next day.
A word of warning -- one other member of the party had a camera with a
pull-up viewfinder on the top. The plastic got so brittle that when he
lifted it up it just came away in his hand. Having invested many
thousands of pounds/dollars in the filming trip, he couldn't face not
having a camera to film with, so decided it was worth taking an
internal flight back to Beijing to buy a replacement camera, confident
that he would be able to get the other one repaired on the insurance,
and re-sell one of them.
