I don't think it's Microsoft's fault, its more of the film studios who wish
to keep control at all costs. They probably threatened to sue Microsoft if
they didn't put in lower resolution if you don't have a card with HDMI with
HDCP etc certified cards.
However, I shall wait until it's all broken further down the line. But
yeah, two formats is stopping me at present. DVD I got right away. I've
known a few that got burnt on the betamax issue and I refuse to be part of
the new generation that didn't learn by that mistake in the past. Wasn't
that long ago either come to think about it. Sony stopped making Betamax
players/recorders in 1988 I think but the format had long lost the war since
then. '82-84 I think...
