I usually shoot with the camcorder strap across my chest, bandolier-style.
I deliberately replaced my VX2000 strap with a longer one so that the camera
can rest against my stomach in this position. By spreading my legs and
pushing down slightly on the camera, I get very stable support because the
camera is held close to my center of gravity. This gives me far steadier
shooting than I would get holding the camera viewfinder to my eye. The
VX2000 autofocus is excellent -- it rarely hunts except at extreme zooms --
and, in any event, has a relatively low-res color viewfinder, unlike its
PD-150 pro counterpart, which has a high-res b&w finder. Accordingly, focus
through the viewfinder is only marginally better than with the LCD. For all
these reasons, I prefer the steadier shot I get with my waist-level shooting
technique to the possibly-better-focus I'd get using the eyepiece.
