Hahahah. DVD to be dead in 3 years? One format to triumph over the
other? Yeah, were these "experts" Sony executives or something?

Look, DVD/VHS combo players are still being sold. Blank VHS tape is still
being sold. Many studios are even still producing VHS releases! DVD has
been around for, what, 10+ years already? And it's been co-existing with
VHS which isn't compatible with it at all.

Given that timeline, that'd mean DVD won't "go the way of VHS" until
closer to 2020 - and they'll probably STILL be around. Heck, even CDs
are still going strong after TWENTY years and not even the superior SACD or
DVD-A managed to put a dent in their sales.

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray are the same physical size as DVDs. Every HD DVD player
(be it HD-DVD or Blu-Ray) is backwards compatible with DVD. Unless the
next big format is radically different from these 3.5" shiny discs, we'll
be seeing HD-DVD/Blu-Ray capable devices well into 2050 and beyond.
