Thoroughly agree with everything you say. I have a conspiracy theory that
all HD does is attempt to bring LCD and plasma screens up to something
resembling the perceived quality we've been used to on CRT for years.
Standard def material on current affordable LCDs looks awful in comparison
to CRT. Like you, I have no intention of paying Sky extra just to have a few
channels in HD, and the one demo I've seen of Sky HD was totally uninspiring
to say the least. It was in Currys so possibly it could have been set up
better, but all I could see was nasty MPEG posterisation effects.
