Um, no. The 360's HD-DVD is an external peripheral. It can only be used
for movies - not games.
You are correct in that the drive is an additional $200 - however it is
only required IF and ONLY IF you want to watch HD-DVD movies.

Who honestly cares what the things look like? Both of them support
wireless controllers, so it's quite possible to simply close the door of
your entertainment unit and never have to look at them unless you need to
swap discs.
In the meantime, the PS3 has quite a lot of ground to makeup to catch up
with the 360 (or the Wii).
