1. Try a different brand of CD. Perhaps even a different dye type.
The most common type these days is pthalocyanine, but you may have
better luck with cyanine or azo. Verbatim uses azo dye. I've not
seen cyanine dye discs in a little while though.
2. Try a slower speed. I find 16x is the fastest I can burn
audio-CDs without having read problems. I'm not saying you'll run
into problems yourself if you burn faster, but some newer players that
are still on store shelves have read problems (skipping, long read
times, not seeing some tracks) with discs burnt at faster speeds.
Automotive CD players are even more picky about media and burn speed
than most players
