I believe the move to wall warts is more likely the desire of the equipment
manufacturers than of the UL.
If you build your power supply into your device, then you must go through
expensive UL testing of your box.
If you opt for a wall wart, which is pre-tested and separate, then your box
is exempt from UL testing.
Another benefit is that your box is smaller...
