Have you thought about a camcorder that uses the new high definition AVCHD
standard, which is a derivative of MPEG-4 H.264 codec. Have a look, for
example, at the Sony HDR-SR1:

Sony Vegas 7 video editing software will support the AVCHD camcorder format
in Spring 2007.
