My experience is limited in the pro word. I'm not familiar with cheap
microphones. The price of a decent professional microphone for
interviewing is almost the same as a cheap mike anyway.
Therefore, my suggestion for top quality interviewing mike is without
any doubt:
Electro-Voice RE50 ND/B.
Goes for what? $120 on eBay?
This microphone was especially designed for interviews. The handle is
shock mounted, as a result, sloppy handling won't result in unwanted
noises. It was a built-in pop filter and frequency response is
optimized for voice. It's being used every day by CNN, ABC, NBC, and
everywhere. Its built like a hammer - to withstand the abuse on the
field - and would outlast any buyer. I give it 6 stars on 5.
For studio microphone, in a cheap price, I highly recommend the
Marshall MXL 2003. (goes for what? $150?) It sounds and performs like
a AKG 3000C. So good that some audio engineers took the time to
compare it against a Neumann U89. (when was the last time audio
engineers wasted their time in comparing a Shure SM58 with a
Neumann???) since I purchased a couple of MXL 2003 mics, I never
looked back into Neumann to gain this theoretical extra 2% in sound
quality.
Good doesn't necessarily mean expensive.
