I shoot Sony "Premium" in my personal TRV900 and in the
TRV950 at the office. I have only seen dropouts in cases of
dirty or mis-aligned equipment. I don't remember ever noticing
any that could be attributed to the tape. Apparently in this
age of inflation "Premium" is the "ordinary" variety. :-)

I don't think dropouts are "endemic" to miniDV or any other
tape format. DV does an excellent job of handling the kind of
minor dropouts that ARE "endemic" to any analog tape format
(which is what any "digital" tape format is under the hood.)
Most of us (me included) would never notice them except by
extraordinary frame-by-frame scrutiny. That is why we like
digital formats like DV.

An excellent summation of the experience and practice of many
(most?) of us here.
