Nutty statement:
"YES in SP. miniDV in the DV speeds even in SP and especially in LP
is
fragile. This is why broadcasters prefer DVCAM, DVCPRO or BetaSX."
DV is one of the more rugged formats to come down the pike. In its
infancy there were tests done recording and re-recording on Sony DV
tapes for 100 repeat cycles and not a single dropout or problem
occurred. Not too 'fragile' huh? Panasonic made huge inroads in the
broadcast industry by giving away tons of cameras in digital's early
days. A real coup for Panasonic. Sony felt they would own that
segment as they had for years and did nothing.
Nutty statement:
"Recording MiniDV in LP is like playing Russian Roulette. Period."
Perhaps for non Sony gear. Most all LP complaints are from cameras
other that Sony with JVCrap cameras and decks leading in the complaint
column. Sony gear seems to have more accurate head and tape path
alignment universally. So it rarely stumbles on LP.
Audio dropouts are good first indicator of worn or dirty heads.
