It's worse than that. The differences in video quality between VHS and
Betamax, at least in their final 2-hour SP incarnations, weren't anywhere
near as great as the differences between in-camera DVD and miniDV. Even
worse, both Sony and Canon are guilty of focusing exclusively on "good
enough for average consumers," and no longer manufacture consumer camcorders
of any kind that offer high-quality video -- you have to go to their
prosumer line to find that.
