Finalizing a video DVD is the "last" thing that happens.

I'm assuming that the video data that has been written to the disc,
prior to the time the disc failed finalization, is still on
the disc - and can be recovered. Just because a Windows
program, or a set-top box can't read the disc does not mean
that the data is gone - it's probably still there.

Surely there is some low-level software out there that can bypass
Windows & read at the hardware level. Seems like you should be able
to salvage a lot of the A/V data that is stored on the bad disc.

It seems like most folks just accept the fact that the DVD did not finalize,
and are willing to trash the DVD. Or if an old video DVD fails to read,
then it MUST be trashed. It's no big deal if it's a copy, but if it's the
only
copy, then it makes sense to try & recover at least some of the data.

I have not found that low level software yet, so feel free to post a link if
you know:-)
