I have Acid pro on one of the PCs here so I am fully signed up to its
ability as an audio editor.

Try not to think of a Mac as anything other than a PC that also runs OS
X. I use the best of both worlds on the one computer. On the Mac Pro I
use bootcamp for Lightwave, AE and Photoshop. If there is an
application that runs better under Windows I'll use bootcamp. Why limit
yourself to outdated thinking by choosing one or the other, have both! :)
The Mac vs PC arguments are completely redundant and there isn't even an
issue about price anymore. I must say I am very happy being hated by
Mac haters and Mac fanboys at the same time!
If it helps, render when you sleep! :)
I haven't used Vista but a software developer friend who I respect
totally says the interface is a gimmick but it is more secure than XP
but in an annoying way! I have no plans to purchase Vista as XP does
everything I need and our PCs only connect to the web for updates.

I am hearing this story more and more. I have colleagues who have
switched to other apps not just FCP but PremPro etc from Avid suites. A
move just a few years ago would have been unthinkable. Since the
playing field has been leveled by affordable hardware the software has
to compete on its own and Avid doesn't stack up against the competition
anymore.
