Yes, because many earplugs are shaped so that they will fit snugly into
the ear one way and not the other.

Yes, because most styles of headset will look a bit odd worn backwards.
And many will not fit properly backwards either.

For a stereo, no.
For a TV or home theatre system, yes. It can be very disorienting to
have the sound from something on the left side of the screen coming out
of the right speaker.
