In my experience it's usually one generation behind the largest. The
largest drives have a price premium because lots of people want them,
the next ones down have the benefits of scale due to their size, and
no such price premium.
For example: I just bought two 750GB drives for my PC... I could have
had 2TB for the price of 1.5TB if I'd bought four 500GB drives
instead, but I could only install two more drives, not four.
