Colin,
Yes, it's true that camcorders and still cameras for consumers have
substantially overlapped in the last few years, with a blurry boundary
between them (no pun intended). The charm of this TX1 compared to any other
alternative IMHO is the extremely small size, making it far less intrusive
than even a small AVCHD camcorder. This camera is truly shirt pocket size,
and allows for carrying it without really feeling like you have another bag
or package to carry. It's probably the way I feel since I passed age 60 and
my knees have begun troubling me from time to time, but I especially
appreciate lightweight and small cameras. It also seems that taking a
camcorder out in public makes many people very self conscious and inhibits
picture taking, whereas the really tiny cameras are less imposing and can do
some really good candid photography. The movie making ability of most of
these tiny still cameras is generally quite poor, but I am hoping this Canon
HD one can make nice, albeit short, DVD quality videos.
