This 'image enhancement in the movies' reminds me of a visit to the TV
Unit of a police force in the UK (which I'll not identify). The force
had recently started using a video-equipped helicopter, and there was
a memorable piece of footage (that was repeated over and over on the
local broadcast news) of a stolen car being tracked along a street --
when it reached a junction at the end it just ploughed straight into
another car and spun to a halt. The driver got out and ran away.
Our guide showed us the clip (we were a group of TV professionals),
and then gleefully told how his Chief Constable had been brought into
the TV Unit to view what his new helicopter had filmed. Bouncing with
glee, he said "Can we just zoom in to the driver's face and see who he
is?" It was probably only 2 pixels on the tape!
One of his aides had to tell him gently that he shouldn't believe ALL
he saw in the movies, at which the CC swept out in high rage that all
the money he'd budgeted for the helicopter was useless!
