Monster produces a well-marketed product. Similar to the "Bose" marketing,
they hype the market with good advertising. The build quality of the cables
ranges from worthless to priceless, but the fact that they want some money
from every budget range steers me clear. The company hasn't always been
that greedy. Monster seems to have a cult following, and word-of-mouth holds
up their reputation from 20 years ago.

AR on the other hand is from a pedigreed audio company. Although they've
sold to Recoton, they don't do all that much advertising that I know of. I
own a few of their Master Series component video cables, and have no
complaints. These can be had on eBay for a song. The Monster cables seem
to have an unbelievable ability to hold value -even in the "grey"-market. I
can't explain that.

And while I'm on a rant--- THX is the most remarkable marketing of all.
Look at all the different "THX-rated" cables out there. Not just high-end
either. But that moniker manages to staple a few extra bucks on anything
from cables, to loudspeakers and audio equipment... I'm suprised we haven't
seen THX-rated TV's yet. Then it will be Lazy Boy's THX certified
recliners. And there are idiots out there that will pay for it.

All cables aren't created equal. Good EMI/RFI rejection and insulation, as
well as conductor properties and jacket/termination construction are all
important to the performance of a good cable. But if I had to choose, I'd
take the AR via eBay.

My $.02
