If you want to buy MP3s your choices are somewhat limited: eMusic and
Wippit are the primary legit' sources. Not all of Wippit's music is DRM
free. Anything they sell that isn't in MP3 format will have DRM. AllofMP3 is
probably the most popular less than legit' site; but, it's getting hard to
find a way to pay them and they're expected to be completely shut down some
time in the near future. If you just want access to MP3 files a good usenet
server along with software to harvest binary files from usenet is another
route to consider. The freeware Grabit or the shareware NewsBin Pro are
couple of popular choices.You can also buy music with DRM and convert it to
MP3s, which do not have DRM. Many people just burn the files with DRM to a
disk and rip the disk. A faster way is to use a conversion program like
SoundTaxi. And then there are also a multitude of sites offering independent
music in MP3 format, much of it free or at low cost.
