Many miniDV camcorders allow you to run an analog video signal in
through the A/V jack, then the camcorder converts it to digital and
then feeds it directly out through the firewire / 1394 jack so you can
plug it into your computer. My Sony vintage 2003 Sony DCR-PC9 do
this. You may have to check the manual (available online) to see how
to set the menu options for this operation. If you have or can borrow
a miniDV camcorder that does this, it saves buying/installing an extra
card.
