No - if the use of new "novel" protection systems on discs breaks or
renders old hardware unusable - and if the old hardware conformed to the
DVD standards and the disc doesn't, it shouldn't be sold as a DVD disc.
If this is the case, the disc should be replaced with one that conforms
to the DVD standards - as was the case with the DRM infested CDs that
got Sony banned from the US military 18 months ago for installing
rootkits.
If I wanted to copy something from Sony that included DRM like that to
enable me to play it on my other hardware, i'd simply pass it through
RipIt4Me.
