He's not an idiot, he's right. I was surprized not so long ago by a
discussion I had on a web forum with some Pommies about whether a certain
celebrity had Asian ancestry. They made these, what seemed to me like
quaint Victorian-era language, references to "orientals" and the "far
east". And asserted that orientals were easily distinguished by their dark
skin.
They're not as insular as the Yanks with their idiotic notion that
everywhere south of the US/Mexican border is populated by generic
"Latinos" from the mythical country of "Latin America". (Except Cuba,
which is peopled by "communists".)
