I think I have found a way to fully erase DVD+RW discs.
I haven't tried DVD-RW, but maybe you can try that Ron.

I get, now and then, problems at or after erasing DVD+RW that results
i an unusable disc. The drives don't recognise it etc.

The solution ?
I put the disc in the oven at 100 deg Celcius for 15 minutes!
(Just to be clear, NOT a microwave oven. Also note that 150 degC
destroys the disc.)

After that, also the standalone recorder sees the disc "as new".

I have so far tried only 3 discs, but it seems to be a systematically
working method (and yes new recordings work).
Both unsuccessful erases and discs with working content are "fully
erased" by this method.
