DVD Audio Distortion

Posted by Vickie on 04/24/07 18:28

In the past week I've noticed a lot of audio distortion when watching
DVD's. (These are blockbuster rentals, not home recorded.) It
happens when the sound gets loud and intense, most often with the
backround music. Turning the overall volume down doesn't help. It
does not happen when watching any TV channels (digital or analog).
It's also OK when using the VCR (tapes or tuner.) Only DVD's.

My TV is a JVC which is about 3 years old and the DVD player is a Sony
single disc player (1 year old) connected using the componenet
connection. I also use a pair of harmon kardon speakers in the
headphone jack of the TV.

The first thing I did was remove the external speakers, but the
distortion continued in the TV speaker.

I can minimize the distortion by changing the attenuation on the DVD
audio menu to "ON' instead of "OFF", which is how it's always been
previously. It helps but it also reduces the overall sound quality as
well, which stinks.

Does this sound like the DVD player went bad or the TV?
(or something else?)

Thanks-
Vickie
