jazu,
Vegas has a rather steep learning curve but rewards the user with a very
rich set of features and a stable environment which performs very well.
There are numerous other less feature-rich programs for people who are
looking for simplicity, HD-DVD authoring, or lower cost. There are those who
prefer to work entirely with mpeg-only editing, since they capture content
in mpeg on a set-top DVD recorder or HDV camcorder. It really boils down to
what you need and want to do, and how complex or simple you want the
environment to be. Some people (myself included) will sometimes use
comparatively primitive programs like Ulead Movie Factory or iMovie even
though we own Vegas 7 or other higher-end programs.
If you are looking for help in selecting an alternative to Vegas, you should
really tell us what Vegas lacks or has too much of, and what you hope to
achieve by switching to something else, and we will be glad to help you find
something.
