I've had luck shooting car interiors at night using an AC inverter,
plugged into the cigarette lighter, connected to a daylight balance
compact fluorescent bulb. I made a box just slightly larger than the
bulb from black foamcore that I lined with silvered mylar. Then using
a utility socket, I jammed the box between the windshield and the
dashboard. I also used a translucent scrim to knock down the light. I
varied the light level by moving and orienting the light.
