Possibly. I know that there used to a cdaudio protection scheme that
would actually replace some of the system's device drivers. I once
abruptly lost the ability to burn DVDs on my system after watching a
couple of rented DVDs. (Boiler Room and some other title I cannot now
recall.) A system restore to a point just before watching those two
movies fixed my problem.
