Peak: yes.
Average/sustained (e.g. with HDD + medium-big files): no.
There are several benchmarking around. The majority gives FireWire a small
lead over USB at a lower CPU occupancy.
In any case, for DV cameras the "throughput" issue does not exist (but the
"CPU occupancy" does...).
