That said... it is unfortunate that manufacturers are able to get away
with a lot of the crap they do because consumers don't take the time to
learn more about what they are buying. They seem to be easily swayed by
electronic trinkets and gizmos that even they will soon tire of. So
manufacturers can remove optional manual controls, microphone inputs,
larger CCD's and flog digital zooms, sepia tones, and zoom microphones.
I do find it exasperating, for example, that you can't buy a decent
consumer level camcorder without the damn photo function. So I can
understand why this can irritate people who value good quality video and
audio.
But it might be for the same reason we have Walmart and McDonald's.
So the next time you complain about the trashy consumer cameras, make
sure you're not eating a Big Mac-- you are doing to nutrition what
consumers do to good video.
