I am gonna go ahead and reply to my own post with another, specific
question.
I've called around and it turns out that the rate I'd have to pay to
get this converted to NTSC and into a digital format is ... outrageous
to say the least.
So here's a solution I may try:
I've been quoted a price for just converting the PAL DigiBetas to
uncompressed .AVIs WITHOUT CONVERSION.

Question: how much worse would the Procoder software conversion be
versus a professional hardware conversion?
Are we talking about lots of added jerkiness to the motion?
I am planning on deinterlacing the entire project (the bulk of it shot
in NTSC HDV), so bear that in mind....
My point is, if I do the conversion by software, can I get it to blend
in with the rest of the doc (I will probably use 5 minutes max from
the BETA), or is it hopelessly going to look shite?
The fee for conversion to AVI is not inconsiderable itself, so I want
to have all good advice before I proceed.
Thanks in advance,
Lee
