I agree with the others in this thread. A shotgun is the wrong mic for
this application. I teach my students "ACAP": In general, you want to
get your mic As Close As Possible to the sound source. In your
application, a lavalier is the only way to go.
IMO, shotgun mics are very misunderstood and misused. In cases where
there is no other option, "they'll do", but there is almost always a
better option.
