I have two Oppo units, the 970 and 971. Both play NTSC/PAL are region
free with a simple hack. Google for these players, and the model 981,
and you will find that they are very well regarded and a bargain. All
three upscale, so that their value is also in their being connected to
a high def set.

Hack:
With the Remote control press setup and then press 9210, it will
display a menu
with region code (default - 1) Enter 0 to make it region free.
