Just buy the damn Canopus converter with the firewire output and be
done with it, the USB stuff is crap quality. The cheapskate always
pays twice. Thing to think about is: the price of the Canopus new, is
about the same as a new low-end DV camcorder that ALSO has analog pass-
thru and on the fly conversion. In the case of your ancient 8mm analog
camcorder, as soon as you've transferred all the 8mm tape htru the
analog inputs of the DV camcorder and on thru he firewire cable into
your computer, throw the old beater out, and use the Dv camcorder from
there on out, saving around $300.
