2.35:1 has been in regular use for several decades now. Thousands of films
were made in that aspect ratio, covering all genres, before 16:9 TVs were
even in consideration.

It would be, since that's not a real aspect ratio. You might be thinking
of 1.85:1, which is an aspect ratio that many films have been released
theatrically in over the past year. Or you may be thinking of 1.78:1,
which is the aspect ratio of WS TVs, and the aspect ratio a lot of films
are released in on video.

And there's the important word: "seems." It "seems" that way to you, but
you have no proof that it's actually so. You're letting a subjective
"feeling" override objective assessment.

List them.

List those movies from ten years ago.

Just for comparison, here's the lists of the top 10 movies from 1997, ten
years ago, and this year's current top ten:

1997
1 Titanic 2.35 : 1
2 Men in Black 1.85 : 1
3 The Lost World: Jurassic Park 1.85 : 1
4 Liar Liar 1.85 : 1
5 Air Force One 2.35 : 1
6 As Good as It Gets 1.85 : 1
7 Good Will Hunting 1.85 : 1
8 Star Wars (Special Edition) 2.35 : 1
9 My Best Friend's Wedding 2.35 : 1
10 Tomorrow Never Dies 2.35 : 1

2007
1 Spider-Man 3 2.35 : 1
2 Shrek the Third 1.85 : 1
3 300 2.35 : 1
4 Pirates of the Caribbean 3 2.35 : 1
5 Wild Hogs 2.35 : 1
6 Blades of Glory 1.85 : 1
7 Ghost Rider 2.35 : 1
8 Meet the Robinsons 1.85 : 1
9 Norbit 1.85 : 1
10 Bridge to Terabithia 1.85 : 1

So, for both years, half of the top ten films were 2.35:1, while the other
half were 1.85:1. Isn't it interesting how the ratio of 2.35:1 to 1.85:1
films for both years are *exactly* the same?

And sure, a "lesser" comedy like Wild Hogs was filmed in 2.35:1 despite not
being an "epic." But here's a shocker: the same thing occurred in 1997,
with the comedy My Best Friend's Wedding being filmed in 2.35:1. So it
looks like instead of some comedies being filmed in 2.35:1 being a new
phenomenon, it's actually a decades-old tradition in Hollywood.
