VLC Media Player and Media Player Classic are superb DVD and
other format players.

WinAMP 2.81 is still a decent player, which handles MP3 and many
other formats.

The players mentioned above do so and much more.
Bearing in mind that DIVX and its ilk do not typically contain
chapters, some other software players allow for setting and
saving "bookmarks." Some players, VLC is an example, have
excellent FF/FR functionality - some do not.
Firmware players rarely have such features.
